Yoga is passport to fitness; says Modi ahead of International Yoga Day

The world is all set to celebrate the fifth International Yoga Day on 21 June. Yoga, a traditional means of living a healthy life, is India’s incredible contribution to the world. It was on 11 December 2014 that the United Nations declared 21 June, every year, as International Yoga Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a vigorous practitioner of yoga, has always been vocal about its impeccable health benefits. The UN declared June 21 as international yoga day as per Modi’s suggestion.

The Indian Prime Minister often posts notes and videos which promote yoga on his official social media accounts. As the world is gearing up to celebrate the fifth International Yoga Day, Modi posted a note explaining the amazing health benefits of yoga. He appeals to the people of the country to make yoga a vital part of their lives and also to celebrate the spirit of this ancient tradition by doing yoga along with families on the yoga day. He describes yoga as a passport to fitness and wellness. The Prime Minister advises not to see yoga as a mere set of physical exercises but to perceive it as a means to find the ‘self’. He urges everyone to make yoga an integral part of life.

Yoga is an incredible journey from being ‘I’ to ‘We’. Even if a person achieves great success in life he/she might not feel genuine happiness in their souls. This is where yoga serves as a wonderful panacea for the mind.

In his post, Modi, says that practicing yoga ensures the wellbeing of the body and mind. “Yoga and meditation are excellent medicines to ease the tensions that are related to work and other things. It promotes your creative faculties, improves concentration and ease tension. Those who sit and work for so long often complain of back pain. Yoga is an amazing remedy for back pain. Besides, it helps strengthen familial bonds and grow love and brotherhood as well. There are lots more to know about yoga, the magical knowledge that was imparted to us, thousands of years ago, by our great sages. Practice yoga at least once to realize its incredible results,” says Modi in the post.

Meanwhile, animated yoga tutorial videos, featuring a character resembling Modi are becoming popular on the social media. The video titled ‘Yoga Guru’ was released on the Prime Minister’s official Youtube channel.
