Migraines are severe and debilitating headaches often accompanied by nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to sound and light. It is mostly women who suffer from migraine which even disrupts their sleeping patterns. The headache which begins at any point of time in the day often intensifies during the night, making you feel extremely sick and uncomfortable. Doctors suggest some relaxation tips to ease the migraine attacks and help you catch a night of good sleep.

» Avoid coffee and other drinks that are laden with caffeine after dusk. Too much intake of caffeine would only intensify the migraine.

» Try to sleep only at least one and half hours after eating your dinner. Do not go to bed immediately after your last meal of the day.

» You could also cut down the water intake during night. Constant urge to use the wash room may disrupt your sleep. Those who suffer from migraine attacks may feel extremely exhausted after a night of a disrupted sleep. However, make sure that you drink enough water during the day time to keep your body well hydrated.

» Food items like wine, cheese, yeast, food preservatives, fast food or junk food containing mono sodium glutamate that induce migraine should be avoided. It is important to identify the kind of food items that your body rejects.

» Avoid food from outside, especially hotels, for dinner on days you feel migraine. The preservatives and the colourants added in it may intensify the headaches.

» Try to avoid doing office tasks at home when you are having a migraine attack. This may stress your eyes and harm your sleep as well.

» Inform your family members in advance if you are suffering from migraine. It is important that you lie down with a relaxed mind. Instead of pitch darkness, a small bulb with diffused light could be switched on in the room. Play music in low volume if you are a music enthusiast.

Take sleeping pills or pain killers only after consulting a doctor. There is no point in losing sleep worrying about your sleeplessness.
