Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD is a group of lung diseases that block the air flow and make it difficult to breathe. Conditions like emphysema and chronic bronchitis can lead to COPD. External factors like smoking, constant contact with chemicals and air pollution too can be the causes of this disease.
Breathing difficulties, cough, suffocation, infection in lungs, exhaustion, unexplained weight loss and swelling on feet and heels are some of the symptoms of COPD. Do not ignore these symptoms as it is very important to seek medical assistance. COPD could be controlled to a certain extend by making some changes in the lifestyle.
Quit smoking as soon as possible, as it would greatly improve the condition of the lungs.
Stress is a common reason for COPD. Try to catch at least 8 hours of good sleep. Practice breathing exercises and meditation to calm your mind and body.
Maintain healthy body weight. A well balanced diet and exercise would help you manage weight. Junk food or oily and spicy dishes could be avoided. Apples, walnuts and broccoli are excellent for lungs.
Keep away from bacteria that cause irritation and diseases. Do not go to a crowded place if you are running a temperature or have cold. Make sure that your hands are always clean.
