As summer sets in beware of dehydration and other illnesses

The harsh summer sun is already making Kerala sweat profusely. This is also the time when people complain of summer diseases and many other health problems. Sunburns and dehydration are the most common types of summer diseases. The levels of sodium and potassium in the body dip due to extreme dehydration. This may even cause fatigue, exhaustion, memory loss, eccentricity and lack of sleep as well.

Becoming short tempered too could be a symptom of severe dehydration. Extreme heat sensation could lead to rashes and itching. The risk of such cases is high in diabetes and cholesterol patients. Hemorrhoids, burning sensation around the eyes, gum diseases, heart burn and urinary infection too are commonly seen during the summer.

Vaginal infections and white discharges would be severe in women during the summers. Necessary steps have to be taken to prevent water-borne diseases like hepatitis, cholera and diarrhoea.

It is better to lower the portion of meat in your regular diet when it is summer. You could consume lots of vegetables and fruits to keep your body healthy and well-nourished. Summer fruits like mangoes and jack fruits are excellent. Personal hygiene plays a vital role in ensuring good health during the summer.

Massaging the body with herbal oils and taking a relaxing bath could refresh your body and mind. Ayurvedic treatments like Thakradhara and Thalapothichil could be done during the summer to keep your body cool and rejuvenated.
