As a couple, Shibin and his wife, Mithu, were trying to attain different goals. And, they both succeeded in spite of the fact that their goals were poles apart. Mithu was trying to increase her body weight and Shibin, to reduce it. In the end, Shibin managed to cut down 19 kg.
Shibin’s was 82.4 kg and he had somehow managed to reduce it to 78 kg. He was a safety professional in Qatar. He came on vacation last year and has been unable to return due to the pandemic.
Mithu was very famished as she was a nursing mother. She was sleep-deprived too. It was imperative that she put on some weight. Then she joined the Anju Habib fitness and fat loss club of which I was a member. We were on a reverse combo – one wanted to put on weight and the other loses it.
Shibin had undergone two surgeries for shoulder dislocation and was physically weak. He was also on medication for high blood pressure. “I had blackouts and had fainted due to high blood pressure,” he said. Shibin said they were but resolved to attain their goals.
After joining the group, workout and dieting became part of life and routine. “we understood that avoiding food is not the way out,” Shibin said. Food intake was regulated and fixed on the basis of the calorific value of each food item. So, meals were customised to calories and personal needs. Shibin and Mithu were given the same workout regimen. They did their workouts together as per the instructions on the group. Shibin said this activity helped in supporting one another in the programme. Shibin said one’s life partner is the best workout combo as the tasks could be executed at home. But there was a difference on the food platter – Mithu’s plate was full but Shibin’s was mostly full of curries and side dishes.
Shibin managed to bring down his weight from the stagnant 78 to 62. His tummy also got tucked in due to the effective worked out. After the lockdown, people who saw Shibin could not believe their eyes. Now, he is an inspiration to many.
Mithu managed to add 4 kg to her weight. Shibin says she has regained her health and both of them have made workout part of their lives. And, this comes out of the find that a little time spent on workout every day adds immensely to the physical and mental well-being.
