Let's face it - Not all of us know or do the basic skincare as per seasonal changes, though we watch umpteen reels on them. The multi-step processes can be both overwhelming and costly. When it comes to nourishing the skin, many experts say ‘Less is more.' Therefore, what about sticking to the basic, feasible summer skincare tips you can follow?

Understanding your skin type, particularly if you're dealing with skin-related concerns, is at the core of every effective skin protection regimen. Mastering this initial step sets the stage for smooth sailing through the subsequent ones. Let’s learn about some useful tips for skincare that can be of great help during this summer:-

1.    Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate
Skin is classified into various types, such as oily, dry, combination, or sensitive, based on their texture and character. Regardless of your skin type, maintaining adequate water content in your body is essential. While external skincare is important, internal care is equally vital for a radiant complexion. Skincare products yield better results when applied to hydrated skin. Conversely, inadequate water content can hinder the effectiveness of these products, however good they are. Therefore, prioritizing hydration through sufficient water intake is crucial for skincare. Additionally, incorporating seasonal fruits in plenty in summer can further enhance skin health.

2.    Throw away that soap
Many who face skin issues often declare that they exclusively use soap to wash their faces, neglecting other skincare products. However, it's crucial to note that most soaps tend to strip away essential moisture from the skin, leaving it dangerously dry. This damages the skin barrier and increases the risk of various issues, such as increased sebum production, pimples, hyperpigmentation, and other skin concerns. This is especially pronounced during summer. So, always opt to use a cleanser when washing your face. This practice is crucial for maintaining the skin's pH balance and preserving its natural barrier.

3.    Moisturizing is key
Moisturizing is essential, regardless of whether your skin type is dry, oily, or somewhere in between. After each face wash, make sure to apply moisturizer promptly. In regions with high atmospheric humidity, you may find yourself washing your face more frequently due to sweat. Consistently moisturizing in these situations will aid in retaining the skin's softness.

4.    What if there are no sunscreens?
Regardless of the weather, it's crucial to consistently apply sunscreen, particularly in summer. Selecting a sunscreen that complements your skin type may require some trial and error, but it's essential not to skip this step. Individuals from South India are particularly susceptible to sun damage and tanning if they don't protect their skin from direct sunlight.

5.    Avoid overusing face packs
Many individuals enjoy experimenting with various beauty care tips. However, during summer, increased sweat production can lead to enlarged pores. Consequently, excessive application of skincare products can harm the skin and exacerbate acne. Therefore, when using face packs, ensure they contain suitable ingredients and limit usage to once every two weeks.

6.    Avoid exposure to warm water
Minimize skin exposure to hot water, whether for face washing or bathing. Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and potentially clogging pores. Opt for lukewarm water instead to maintain the skin's moisture barrier and prevent adverse effects.

7.    Make your skincare practices simple
Simplify your skincare routine, especially during summer. If you're accustomed to layering serums and products, consider scaling back due to the intense heat and humidity. Embrace a less-is-more approach by using lightweight skincare and makeup products that allow your skin to breathe. Stick to gentle cleansers and hydrating moisturizers to keep your skin protected and healthy in the summer months. Summer is a season that delights the eyes with blooming flowers and ripe fruits, bringing joy to the mind. However, many individuals tend to stay indoors, fearing the effects of sunlight and sun tanning. Yet, it's possible to embrace summer without any worry by adhering to a meticulous skincare regimen.
