A new Covid variant named XEC is spreading across Europe, and scientists say it can soon become a dominant strain. XEC, which was first identified in June in Germany, has now emerged in 27 countries. So far, it has not been reported in India. Here's what you should know about XEC.
What is XEC?
As per reports, the strain is closely related to its parent variants KS.1.1 and KP.3.3, which descended from the JN.1 strain. Even the latest strain has new mutations that are helping it spread faster.
What are XEC Covid symptoms?
Just like in the case of other Covid infections, XEC too has flu or cold-like symptoms, like cough, headaches, congestion, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, diarrhoea, loss of smell and appetite, high temperature, body aches and exhaustion.
How to treat XEC Covid?
Experts say vaccines should continue to offer strong protection against it. After consulting your doctor, take booster shots and opt for hospitalisation if necessary. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is also advising people to maintain good hygiene and do all they can to improve air quality.
