Dubai recognised as first certified autism centre in Eastern hemisphere: What this means

Dubai: Dubai has been recognised as the first certified autism destination in Eastern Hemisphere by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), reports Manorama Online. IBCCES is a global leader in professional training and certification for autism and neurodiversity. The authorities said that they hope to achieve human resources development, improve lifestyle and to encourage the objectives of UAE’s ‘Year of the Community’ program.

More than 70,000 employees have completed the autism and sensory awareness campaigns promoted by the Dubai Way platform, developed by Dubai College of Tourism (DCT). Meanwhile, certification processes are being held at more than 300 hotels in the city. Besides, more than 15 tourism spots, beaches and parks too have secured the IBCCES certification. The certification promises enriching experiences for the visitors who are autistic or require specific sensory support.

All the major enterprises like the Dubai Airports, Emirates, Expo City Dubai and Dubai Holding Entertainment have played major roles in achieving this incredible feat. The Dubai International Airport became the first international airport in the world to become a certified autism centre.

Meanwhile, Dubai’s flag carrier Emirates became the first autism certified airline company by providing training for its 30,000 staff and crew members. Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM) which is part of the Department of Economy and Tourism stated that Dubai has been able to achieve the certification with the support and cooperation of IBCCES, airline industry, hotels and other tourism centres in the city.
