Lakhs of people come from far and wide to enjoy the annual Thrissur Pooram festival, held in peak summer. Many health and safety facilities are in place to ensure the spectators enjoy the event worry-free, ranging from safety checks on buildings in the area, branches of trees hanging dangerously, elimination of problematic slogans, flags, symbols and more. Around 4,000 police personnel, including women officers, will also be at the festival venue to handle law and order. A veterinary doctors' medical team will also be at the spot to monitor the participating elephants. Here are the other health and safety plans spectators should be aware of:

Health, safety at Thrissur Pooram
1) A medical team, led by the District Medical Officer, will be at the venue.
2) 61 ambulances are also set up for the festival. Only those with DMO recognition and DMO certificate stickers will be present at the venue. 
3) Special viewing galleries are set up so foreign tourists can view the event safely. It can be booked via the Thrissur DTPC office.

4) Fire and safety measures with adequate equipment are set up at the venue. 
5) From 11 pm on May 5 to 2 pm on May 7 (for 39 hours), all kinds of beverage shops will be shut down as per Section 54 of the Abkari Act of Kerala. 
6) In the light of the Pahalgam attack, police have also arranged checks via drone cameras. 

7) Bottle booths and waste bins will be in place at various spots.
8) E-toilets are set up for the public.
9) Visitors are advised to carry a bottle of boiled drinking water.
