Testosterone is the ‘culprit’ behind many thinking they are X-Men. Ever stumble upon this reel? While the reel is all fun and laughs, it’s also true. Testosterone makes a person feel confident, bold enough to take risks, motivated, impulsive, and even aggressive. For the same reasons, if a person is low on testosterone, it can cause fatigue, depression, loss of hair and even erectile dysfunction. This condition is called ‘male hypogonadism’ and it is caused by injuries that have affected the pituitary gland, testicles or hypothalamus.

It affects older individuals, those suffering from obesity, those with AIDS, those with obstructive sleep apnea, those with type 2 diabetes and those with chronic conditions like kidney dysfunction and liver cirrhosis. Apparently, about 2% of men suffer from this condition. There are many ways to remedy the situation; here are a few of them, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

1) Manage your weight in a healthy range
2) Avoid excessive drugs and alcohol
3) Eat a healthy diet
4) Workout regularly
5) Try a testosterone skin gel as advised by your doctor
6) Take injections every one or two weeks
7) Try pellets, tablets, nasal gel or oral testosterone as per your healthcare provider’s advice.
8) Hormone replacement therapy

The mortality of those with low testosterone is higher than that of those with normal levels. Therefore, do not dismiss its symptoms as a part of old age. Though the treatment focuses mainly on handling the symptoms, timely intervention can be beneficial.
