Kochi: Actor Mohanlal has called upon the student community to be ‘heroes who can save their land’ from the rising drug menace. He urged the students to fight the drug problem by raising their voices against it. He was addressing the 'Be a hero, say no to drugs' campaign organised by Manorama Online, Viswasanthi Foundation and Joy Alukkas Foundation as part of the International Day against Drug Abuse 2025 at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Kadavanthra in Kochi on Thursday.

“This is not the time to remain silent. It’s high time we to reacted loudly. This is the time to become heroes who save the land. We have to tell ourselves we won’t use drugs and we don’t let anyone use them,” he said. Mohanlal repeated his much-celebrated dialogue “narcotics is a dirty business” to drive his message home. Mohanlal also recited an anti-drug abuse pledge for the children from various schools in the city who attended the event. Mohanlal also answered questions from select students.

The actor distributed the prizes to the winners of basketball, poster designing and quiz competitions held as part of the campaign. Hundreds of students from classes 8 to 12 have participated in the inter-school competitions. Manorama Online organised the programme in association with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Regional Sports Centre. Joy Alukkas, chairman and MD, Joyalukkas Group; Major Ravi, Managing Director, Viswasanthi Foundation; Venugopal G Kurup, Zonal Director - Kochi, NCB; SAS Navaz, Director, Regional Sports Centre also addressed the gathering.
