Frank Caprio's cancer battle
Judge Caprio was first diagnosed with cancer in December 2023, just a few days after his 87th birthday. In a video that went viral, Caprio said that he is prepared to fight the disease, and was receiving treatment from Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston and the Miami Cancer Institute, Baptist Health South Florida. Throughout his treatment, he used to request his followers for prayers and spoke about how his faith and family were helping him handle the difficult period. The video of him ringing the bell at the Miami Institute after completing his treatment had also gone viral in July last year. However, he announced the setback of the disease recently and asked for everyone's support.
Why pancreatic cancer is tough to cure
Pancreatic cancer is considered a rare variety now, according to the Cleveland Clinic, though it is on the rise. It is the 8th most common cancer in women and the 10th most common in men. It is one of the cancers that are rarely diagnosed at their early stages, and gives out symptoms only after spreading to other organs. This often makes it difficult to cure it, says the Mayo Clinic. It is also not clear yet what causes the disease. However, a few of the reasons quoted by doctors are a family history of cancer and smoking. Obesity, older age, alcohol consumption, type 2 diabetes and chronic inflammation are also risk factors for the disease.
