Kannada actor Harish Rai, who played the character Khasim Chacha in KGF, passed away at Kidwai Hospital in Bengaluru this morning. He was part of both the KGF movies and is also known for the Kannada film Om, in which he played Don Rai. The actor, who was 55, discovered he was unwell about four years ago, when he began feeling out of breath, according to reports. Apparently, he found a lump in his throat and had the swelling even while shooting KGF. He told an entertainment portal that he kept a long beard to hide the swelling.

Harish had also spoken to the media about the high costs of his treatment. He had to spend around Rs 70 lakh for medicines, and even a single injection cost around Rs 3.55, said reports. He was to take three such injections over 63 days, and required around 20 of them.

According to Apollo Hospitals, thyroid cancer is common among Indians, and just as in the global scenario, it's increasing in the country too. The exact reason for the cancer is not certain yet. However, genetic factors, exposure to radiation in childhood and an age above 40 are considered risk factors for the disease. Chest, dental X-rays, and mammograms are also considered to increase the risk. There are four types of thyroid cancer - papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic - depending on how aggressive the form of cancer is.

2) Difficulty breathing
3) Difficulty swallowing
4) Hoarseness of voice
5) Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
6) Loss of appetite
7) Sudden, unexpected weight loss
8) Vomiting and nausea
9) Exhaution
