When the 32-year-old travel influencer Anunay Sood passed away in Las Vegas in early November, many were shocked. The influencer, who had earned more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram, was found unresponsive in his hotel room while he was touring the US after exploring Switzerland.
Now, the US Clark County authorities have revealed that his sudden death was caused by an accidental overdose of alcohol and fentanyl, a pain medication that's also a powerful synthetic opioid. He was in Vegas to attend the Concours 2025 car show. Earlier, law enforcement officers had also revealed that narcotics were found near his body.

What is fentanyl?
Fentanyl is linked to many accidental overdose cases in the United States. While opioids are commonly used to treat pain and are included in medicines, their non-medical use, especially prolonged misuse, can be dangerous, says the World Health Organisation. Not only can they cause breathing difficulties, but they can also lead to death.

Fentanyl is around 100 times more potent than morphine. Apparently, some evidence says drug dealers are adding it to increase the potency of products like heroin, and are even adding it to counterfeit tablets. Fentanyl is used in India too, both legitimately and in illicit substance production.
