Polycystic Ovary Disease, or PCOD, is a hormonal condition that many women face today. From irregular periods, weight gain, fertility problems and acne to excess male hormones, the condition can also cause fatigue, hair loss, excess body hair and balding. Though diet issues, lack of activity and stress are often quoted as the reasons for PCOD, genetics can also be a significant trigger of the disease. For quite some time, a video claiming that a homemade drink made with turmeric, pepper and ghee could effectively treat Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD) has been doing the rounds on various social media platforms. Is it effective for real?

Is PCOD curable?
According to multiple health experts and platforms, currently, there is no permanent cure for PCOD. That said, it is manageable with lifestyle changes and medication. When our fact-check team conducted keyword searches on curing PCOD with ghee, pepper, and turmeric, no scientific reports were found that prove the drink made with them could cure PCOD. However, research reports suggest a role for curcumin in preventing PCOD. Nevertheless, none of these ingredients can completely prevent or cure this health condition. Besides, a teaspoon of ghee contains more than 45 calories. Having ghee daily would not be advisable for someone who struggles with body weight issues, visceral fat, high triglycerides, fatty liver or LDL cholesterol. Body weight fluctuations are a significant cause of concern among women who suffer from PCOD and other hormonal issues.

'Baseless and misleading'
We also spoke to health experts to gain more scientific knowledge about the claim that turmeric, ghee and pepper can prevent PCOD. All of them dismissed this claim as baseless and misleading. PCOD is a hormonal issue that is genetic and may cause body weight fluctuations and hormonal imbalance. Although it is safe to include ghee, a healthy fat, in a balanced diet, there is no scientific evidence that drinking warm water mixed with ghee prevents or cures PCOD. Effective PCOD management is possible with a healthy, nutritious diet, regular exercise, and timely medical intervention. The health experts said that those who are worried about PCOD should refrain from such home remedies and seek proper medical treatment.

Fact
The claim that a drink made with turmeric, pepper, and ghee can prevent or cure PCOD is baseless and untrue.
