The fourth stage is considered the most advanced and dangerous stage in the world of cancer. People often get worried and tend to think that everything has ended when they are diagnosed with stage four cancer. However, is stage four cancer that scary? Is it possible to treat and cure stage four cancer? Or should you really be seeking treatment if you have been diagnosed with stage four cancer? These questions cannot be answered in a limited number of words.

Severity at stage four
It is not possible to treat stage four cancer and take it to stage three. The stage or the extent of the disease would not change much from the time of diagnosis. Meanwhile, the severity of the disease, even in stage four, would vary from person to person.

For instance, imagine that a person has been diagnosed with intestinal cancer. The tests revealed that the disease has spread to the liver, too. The stage of this cancer would be identified as four. But, it is key to understand that it would be stage four if the cancer is spread only to a small part of the liver or more than one part, liver and lungs at the same time or the liver, lungs and the bones. However, the disease's intensity would differ. The treatment procedure and the treatment's intention or aim would differ in stage four cancer. If the cancer is spread only in a small area, the intention of the treatment would be to cure completely.

What decides treatment
Cancer is often labelled as stage four when it returns after the first round of treatment. But the way it affects, or the intensity, is also considered when deciding the treatment protocol. In some cases, the label' stage four' doesn’t carry much weight. It only means that the condition is a bit more serious than the other three stages.

It must be noted that serious diseases like lymphoma could be treated and cured even in stage four. If the oral cancer found in the mouth or throat spreads to the lymph nodes in the neck, it is labelled as stage four. However, this too is treatable and can be cured. So, stage four cancer doesn’t always mean the patient is already doomed.
