Derek C Lalchhanhima, the six-year-old boy from Mizoram, who is now a star on social media for his innocent act of kindness has been awarded a ‘Word of Appreciation’ certificate by the school where he studies. Derek’s photos, showing him holding the certificate, have also gone viral.

The internet has been abuzz of late over a picture of the Mizoram boy holding a 10-rupee note on one hand and a chicken on the other after he accidentally ran over it while riding a bicycle. The boy is said to have rushed to a hospital nearby with the chicken and the ten-rupee note.

The photo is said to have been clicked while he was holding out the 10-rupee note to a hospital staff demanding treatment for the chicken. The photograph instantly became viral with more than 50,000 people sharing it on social media.

There has been a barrage of comments on social media lauding the boy as the symbol of humanity and compassion. The boy is now being hailed as a true model of human being against the backdrop of those who conveniently turn their away from helping those in need of support.

Some of those who witnessed the innocent look on the boy’s face commented that the world would have been a better place had adults possessed the generosity and humility the six-year-old child displayed.

It is not clear as to what Derek, a native of Sairang in Mizoram, finally did with the chicken that belonged to his neighbourhood.
