Two persons who might have had most ardently prayed for notifying Kottayam as a green zone could be Johnson, a native of Velloor near Pampady in Kottayam and Minnu, a resident of Pazhoor in the same district. And their prayers were kindly rewarded as the two were able to tie the knot at the St. Thomas Jacobite Church in Chengalam on Sunday, though in the presence of few close relatives.

The two were engaged in January. The date was fixed on last Sunday considering the vacation of Johnson's sister in UK. However, the COVID outbreak upended the whole programme. Neither Johnson's sister nor her husband, who is in South Africa, could arrive for the wedding. All the same, the decision was not to postpone the marriage, though it would be solemnised in a simple ceremony.

Minnu's wedding trousseau was collected from a familiar boutique. Johnson's suite was supposed to be stitched by a known textile showroom in Kottayam. But they declined the order following the lockdown. It was Johnson's friend, a cloth merchant in Pampady, who came to his rescue and decided on a white shirt instead of a suit.

The wedding banquet was abandoned, close kin watched the ceremony on Facebook live and thus, the couple took the oath of togetherness for life in a simple and serene ritual sans pomp and gaiety.
