7 cases of crime against women in Tripura in a week

Agartala: At least seven cases of crime against women including rape, attempt to rape, and molestation were registered in Tripura during the Durga puja last week, police said.

The cases were reported from different districts of the state from October 14 till October 19.

A physically challenged woman was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man at Bishalgarh in Sipahijala district, about 20 km from here on October 15, the police said.

A woman was alleged molested by two men at Kakrabon in Gomati district on October 14, they said, adding both the persons were arrested by police.

A 16-year-old girl was kidnapped from Kamalpur in Dhalai district on October 17. The police rescued the girl and arrested a man and registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act) against the accused.

A tribal girl was allegedly molested at Lalit Bazaar in West Tripura district on Thursday by four persons. The accused were arrested.

A group of youths attempted to rape a girl at Jirania in West Tripura on October 16. One of the accused was arrested, police said.

A 40-year-old housewife alleged that three persons had molested her near her home at Moloynagar village, 10-km from Agartala, on the same day.

A 35-year old woman lodged a case at Gokulnagar in West Tripura on Dusshera evening accusing two persons of molesting her.
