The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for companies to issue TDS statement in Form 24Q to employees from May 31 to June 30. Consequently the last date to issue Form 16 has also been extended from June 15 to July 10.

Earlier, extensions were provided only to the state of Odisha but now the last date for filing Form 24Q has been extended all over the country. The changes have been brought to the process after it was found that there were many difficulties in filing the said return in the recently revised format.

The last date for filing income tax returns may be also extended, according to sources. If the last date of filing income tax returns remains May 31 still, several taxpayers would not have the necessary time to soak in all the new details.
