RBI directs banks to shift to .bank.in domain to curb cyber fraud

New Delhi: In accordance with the directive issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks across the country will now operate under new web addresses. As per this guideline, all bank URLs will end with .bank.in, a move aimed at preventing cyber fraud. The RBI instructed that this change be implemented by Friday.

The objective is to prevent phishing attempts that use web pages and addresses resembling legitimate bank websites. Verifying whether a web address ends with .bank.in is expected to help users avoid falling victim to cyber fraud. Many banks have temporarily suspended their old website addresses. However, entering the old URLs will automatically redirect users to the new .bank.in addresses. 

Non-banking financial institutions have been instructed to use .fin.in as the suffix for their web addresses. However, the deadline for implementing this change has not yet been announced. The domains ending with .bank.in and .fin.in will be reserved and unavailable to others.
