After touching record highs ahead of the Onam festival, coconut oil price began to ease sharply in the state. The retail price has now dropped to around ₹360 per litre, down from ₹400 just a week ago.

The decline is being attributed to a surge in coconut production in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, coupled with a steady influx of imported copra into the open market. The improved supply has eased pressure on prices, which had remained elevated for months.

Prices are expected to soften further in the coming weeks with the arrival of fresh copra stocks from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. If current trends continue, coconut oil prices could fall to around ₹180 per litre by April next year, traders said.

In July, coconut oil prices reached an all-time high of ₹393 per kg in Kochi's wholesale market, while copra touched ₹261/kg.
