PM Modi is 'Pradhan Prachar Mantri' and Mamata is 'sticker didi'

Ranaghat: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took a jibe at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee calling her 'sticker didi' who labels central welfare schemes as those run by her government.

The reason why the electorate had voted the Left out of power in West Bengal and had supported her party has not been fulfilled by her, he said at an election rally here.

TMC, he claimed, has brought more miseries to the people of the state through goondaism, syndicates and extortion.

"Speedbreaker didi is also sticker didi. She just puts a sticker on central schemes like free electricity or ration for the people to claim that these benefits are being given the state government," he said.

Modi had earlier called Banerjee "speed breaker didi" for allegedly blocking implementation of central schemes in the state.

Continuing his attack, the prime minister said Banerjee has betrayed the people of Bengal "who gave her so much trust and respect" and the reason why the electorate had voted the Left out of power has not been fulfilled by her so far.

Accusing Banerjee and her party of trying to browbeat the saffron party in West Bengal, Modi said that BJP is not afraid of intimidation and violence.

"If it was so, BJP would not have come to power in the country and become the world's largest political party from having only two MPs," he said.

He claimed that Banerjee, who used to shed tears in Parliament seeking that illegal immigrants be thrown out of the country, is now their biggest protector.

Asserting that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will be brought in Parliament, he said that all illegal immigrants will be thrown out of the country.

Accusing Banerjee of stopping the implementation of the 'Ayushman Bharat' health insurance scheme in the state and depriving millions of poor people of benefits of up to Rs five lakhs, the prime minister said "It is an example of sick mentality."

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "Pradhan Prachar Mantri" and accused the BJP of "wasting drinking water" to clean roads in Banda, an arid town in Uttar Pradesh's Budelkhand region.

Priyanka Gandhi's comments drew a sharp reaction from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who said her statements show that the fear of defeat has gripped the Congress.

The Congress's attack on Modi and the BJP came a day ahead of the prime minister's visit to Banda in Uttar Pradesh.

Water from tankers were being used to clean roads to "welcome our Pradhan Prachar Mantri (chief publicity minister)", she claimed.

This is happening at a time when "the entire Bundelkhand, the men and women living there, school going children, crops, birds and animals are facing the spectre of drought," the Congress general secretary said.

In a tweet, Priyanka Gandhi said, "Is he a 'chowkidar' (watchman) or a 'shahnshah' (emperor) coming from Delhi."

The prime minister is schedule to address an election rally here on Thursday.

Rebutting allegations, Adityanath said, "The fear of defeat has gripped the Congress so much that it can be proved from the fact that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has termed an 11-second washing of keechad (mud), as the washing of an entire road."

In a tweet, he said, "The Congress is a factory of lies. Even after tendering an apology in the Supreme Court, these Congressmen are not mending their ways.'

His reference was to Congress president Rahul Gandhi expressing regret in the Supreme Court on Monday over his remark "chowkidar (watchman) Narendra Modi chor hain" in connection with the Rafale judgment.
