Assembly polls: Tripura to vote on Feb 16, Meghalaya and Nagaland on Feb 27

New Delhi: The Election Commission announced the schedule of Assembly Elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland on Wednesday afternoon. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference in Delhi that the polls in Tripura will be held on February 16. Meghalaya and Nagaland will vote on February 27.  Votes will be counted on March 2. 

There is a total of 62.8 lakh voters combined in the three states and 2.2 lakh among them are first-time voters. Interestingly, all the election duties including security will be handled by women this time, the EC said. There will be a total of 376 polling stations in the states, altogether. 

The term of Nagaland Assembly will end on March 12. Meghalaya's will end on March 15 and Tripura's on March 12. 

The by-election to be held in Lakshadweep, as one of its MPs Muhammad Faizal was disqualified, is scheduled on February 27.
