Madurai: Actor-turned-politician Vijay addressed thousands at the conference of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Parapathi, Madurai, on Thursday. He made a cinematic entry as the party anthem played in the background, drawing thunderous cheers from supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Vijay said that the 2026 Assembly elections would mark a turning point in Tamil Nadu’s political history, comparable to the landmark victories of regional parties in 1967 and 1977.
He declared that his party will not have an alliance with any fronts in the state and added that the fight will be between TVK and DMK.
The TVK chief took sharp digs at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing both the state and central governments of failing the people.
Recalling the DMK’s historic 1967 win and the AIADMK’s sweeping victory under MG Ramachandran in 1977, Vijay declared that TVK would set a new record in Tamil Nadu politics in 2026.
“TVK’s politics is real, emotional, and aimed solely at the betterment of the people. This is our second conference, themed ‘history of voters returns.’ Just as Tamil Nadu witnessed major political shifts in 1967 and 1977, another such change will come in 2026. History will repeat itself spectacularly,” Vijay said.
He described TVK as a movement reflecting the people’s voices—“an unstoppable voice and an unstoppable force.”
Responding to critics who doubt his party’s electoral prospects, Vijay asserted that TVK would prove them wrong.
“Don’t underestimate us. The people who throng our conferences will not only vote but also deliver a blow to the anti-people government. A lion is always a lion—the king of the jungle—even if there are jackals in the forest,” he said, in his trademark filmy style.
