Cuddalore: At least 10 students were injured after a school bus overturned on a railway level crossing in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, on Monday morning.

The bus, carrying 15 students to a private school, was hired on contract and not owned by the institution. The accident happened at an interlocked crossing shortly after a train had passed. The vehicle reportedly lost control while negotiating the crossing and overturned, coming to rest across two tracks, touching both sides.

Locals rushed to the spot, rescued the children, and helped lift the bus back to position. The injured students were shifted to the government hospital at Virudhachalam, where officials confirmed that none of them sustained serious injuries. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

In July, two students lost their lives when a train hit a school van at a non-interlocked, manned level crossing in Cuddalore district. The van collided with a passenger train traveling between Villupuram and Mayiladuthurai.
