New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Wednesday reshared on X a video showing a distressed woman claiming to be an Indian stranded in Pokhara amid violent protests in Nepal. The woman, said to be involved in hosting a volleyball league, could be heard appealing for help from the Indian Embassy.
Tagging the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Nepal, Sahney urged immediate intervention for her evacuation.
Responding, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the embassy had “reached out to the concerned person and provided necessary assistance,” while also sharing emergency helpline numbers: +977-9808602881 and +977-9810326134.
The Embassy of India in Kathmandu had already issued emergency contact numbers on Tuesday, urging Indian nationals to seek help if required.
Nepal remained under heavy army presence, with curfew orders extended until 6 am Thursday after violent protests forced Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s resignation. The army, which took control of security on Tuesday night, has urged stranded foreign nationals to contact the nearest security post and appealed to hotels and tourism agencies to extend assistance. Meanwhile, smoke billowed from a burnt Hilton Kathmandu hotel in Nepal.
