New Delhi: Businessman Samir Modi, a cousin of fugitive Lalit Modi, was arrested on Thursday after a woman filed rape charges against him in Southeast Delhi, police officials said. According to police, Samir was taken into custody at Delhi airport on his return from abroad. The arrest followed the registration of a case at New Friends Colony Police Station.
An FIR lodged on September 10 accuses him of rape and criminal intimidation under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC.
The complainant alleged that Modi lured her in 2019 with promises of career opportunities in the fashion and lifestyle industry. She claimed he forced himself on her at his New Friends Colony residence in December that year, and thereafter repeatedly assaulted, threatened, and cheated her under false assurances of marriage, despite being married already.
The woman further alleged that she was harassed and blackmailed continuously, and that Modi used his influence to silence her through intimidation. Police said investigations into the case are underway.
