The Election Commission (EC) on Friday de-listed 474 registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) for failing to meet norms. These included parties that had not contested in elections for the past six years.

The move follows the first phase of action on August 9, when 334 RUPPs were delisted. In total, 808 parties have been removed in two months, reported PTI.

According to EC, there were 2,520 RUPPs until recently, but the number now stands at 2,046. Besides, six recognised national parties and 67 state parties continue to be registered.
