Karur stampede: Centre seeks report from TN govt, assures full support

New Delhi/Chennai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday spoke with Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi and Chief Minister M K Stalin to review the situation after the Karur stampede, assuring all possible central assistance.
The Union Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from the state government on the circumstances that led to the tragedy, along with updates on rescue and medical measures.
At least 38 people, including several women and children, died in the stampede at a rally addressed by actor-politician Vijay in Karur. Dozens more remain injured, with some in critical condition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy, while Shah said he was “deeply pained” by the loss of lives.
“Deeply pained by the tragic loss of lives in a stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the strength of the bereaved families and the speedy recovery of the injured,” Shah posted on X.
