New Delhi: The Centre has revised the national highways toll collection rules to promote digital payments and reduce cash transactions. From November 15, 2025, vehicles entering a fee plaza without a valid or functional FASTag will be charged 1.25 times the regular toll if the payment is made through UPI.

At present, vehicles without a valid FASTag must pay double the toll amount in cash.

Announcing the amendment to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the change is aimed at incentivising digital payments and eliminating cash transactions at toll plazas.

“Under the new rule, vehicles without a valid FASTag will continue to pay double the user fee if paying in cash. However, those opting for UPI payments will be charged only 1.25 times the regular rate,” the ministry said in a statement.

The revised rules, it added, are expected to encourage digital payment adoption, enhance transparency, and improve user experience on National Highways, reported PTI.
