The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay for questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case. Officials said the agency has asked Vijay to appear at its headquarters on January 12 as part of the ongoing probe.

Investigators have already questioned several office-bearers of TVK in relation to the incident. Following these examinations, the CBI decided to call Vijay for questioning, after which it will determine the next course of action, including the filing of a charge sheet, officials said.

The CBI took over the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the directions of the Supreme Court. Since then, the agency has been collecting evidence related to the stampede that occurred during a political meeting addressed by Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27. The stampede claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
