Woman killed in road accident in Kottayam

Kottayam: An elderly woman was killed on Wednesday after a lorry rammed seven vehicles at Koruthode in Mundakayam. Five people were also injured in the incident. The deceased was identified as 62-year-old Thankamma, wife of Bhaskaran, residing at Mangapetta.

The injured were lorry driver Ramachandran of Koruthode; his 8-year-old son Abhinav; Sunilkumar of Pullolil, auto driver Shaji of Koruthode and Radhamani of Koruthode. They were admitted to the Kottayam Medical College hospital. Authorities said that the condition of Abhinav was critical.

The lorry, engaged in transporting drinking water to a relief camp in Aluva, was heading to the Forest Department's Sabari drinking water project when the driver lost control of the vehicle. After hitting a tree near the village office, the lorry rammed Shaji’s auto-rickshaw. It then hit a car and another auto parked on the roadside. Radhamani, the pedestrian, was hit by the auto.
