Wayanad's sole 'railway station' is at a school

How many railway stations are there in Wayanad district? If your reply is none, you are off the mark. If still in doubt, head to Lakkidi, where the 'train' bearing the number GLPS 15230 waits at the 'station.'

Confused? A group of enterprising youths have given the Lakkidi Govt. LP School a revamp with railway as the theme.

The school has received the makeover thanks to ‘Ente Sevanam, Ente Thozhil,’ a web portal launched to find people who are willing to carry out flood relief activities and help in the rebuilding efforts.

While the headmaster’s office has been painted to look like the engine, the classrooms have been highlighted with the colours of the compartments. The ‘train’ has been given the same number as that of the school, GLPS 15230.

The work was completed in three days by NSS volunteers from AWH College at Kallayi in Kozhikode; artists from Dreams, a collective in Wayanad; the people managing the web portal; local people and PTA members of the school.

The web portal www.entesevanamentethozhil.org was formed by a group of IT students in Kozhikode along with Weltrans Human Resource Management Company. Flood-affected

people needing support can register with the portal, which will display the list of individuals and firms who are ready to offer the specific service.

The spruced-up school was opened for students on October 22. Meanwhile, the school is witnessing the arrival of local people too who are curious to see Wayanad’s only 'railway station' and the 'train' waiting there.

Wayanad district does not have a train station. Its nearest railhead is Nilambur Road in Malappuram district.
