Kochi: A domestic flight had to be cancelled as a passenger opened an emergency exit door of an IndiGo aircraft as it was rolling on to the runway from the taxiway for take-off. It is assumed that passenger Ashiq Naushad panicked on seeing the sudden flashing of ceiling lights in the aircraft and feared an emergency.

The IndiGo flight to Hubballi in Karnataka was to take off at 4 pm. The emergency exit door gets detached if it is opened and hence the aircraft cannot fly without fixing it back. The pilot brought back the plane to the parking bay as soon as the emergency exit door was opened.

The 61 passengers on board were boarded on other flights. The Director General of Civil Aviation has ordered an inquiry.
