Aluva: A probe into the death of a woman found dumped in the Periyar has put the sex rackets in Ernakulam under the police scanner. The police probe is looking into the flesh trade being operated from flats in the guise of home nursing institutions.

The woman's body was first spotted by seminarians at the Vincentian Vidhyabhavan near UC College at Aluva in Ernakulam district on Tuesday. The victim is yet to be identified. The police believe she had sexual intercourse before she was murdered. A forensic examination is required to determine this because the body has undergone considerable decomposition. Rape could be ruled out as there were no other injuries on the body, the surgeon who performed the autopsy has told the police.

Who killed her?

The police also suspect that a man and a woman were behind the killing.

Police have found CCTV images of a car that possibly carried the victim. The blanket was found to have been bought from a shop in Kalamassery last week. A plump woman and a man had reached the shop in a car on February 7. This shop is open well into the night. The woman asked for a bigger blanket saying the first one was small. It was bought after the two found it big enough.

The car was seen crossing the shop and then reversing to stop in front of it. This might suggest they found it by chance. The police found that 860 pieces of the same blanket used in the crime had been supplied by wholesalers in the city. That’s how the retail shop in Kalamassery was found.

New evidence suggests the body may not have washed up near Vincentian Vidyabhavan as deduced earlier. It might have been tied to boulders and dumped at this spot. Only those who know the area could reach the spot. The body was first spotted by inmates at the seminary.
