Palakkad: A 21-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped at the CPM area committee office in Cherpulassery in Kerala's Palakkad district, gaven a confidential statement to the Palakkad judicial first class magistrate on Friday.
According to sources, the woman, who later delivered a baby, stuck to the statement she had earlier given to the police that she was raped inside the CPM office at Cherpulassery in June 2018.
The magistrate had gone to the hospital, where the victim is admitted for medical care, to record her statement.
The police have already registered a case against P Prakashan of Cherpulassery for raping the woman.
According the first information report, Prakash had offered her a drink laced with drugs and raped her in the room allotted to DYFI at the CPM office. Reacting to the allegations, CPM leaders said neither the woman nor the man involved in the case was a party member.
The incident came to light when a newborn was found abandoned at Nagaripuram under Mannur panchayat limits around 1 pm on March 16. The police traced the mother, who said the baby was born after she was allegedly raped by a youth activist inside the party office 10 months ago. The woman and the child are kept under observation at the district hospital in Palakkad.
She had claimed that the accused and she were students of a college in Cherpulassery and active members of CPM's students' wing when the incident took place.
It was learnt that the girl told the police that the accused took her to the room allotted to DYFI in the party office on the pretext of discussing matters related to the publication of a college magazine and sexually abused her.
However, the party leaders said the accused was not a college student. The CPM has also alleged a conspiracy behind the allegations.
Meanwhile, the police have decided to verify the facts mentioned by the complainant and launched a probe. Prakash has reportedly admitted that he was in a relationship with the woman. Police will also verify mobile phone records of the two. The police had filed a case against Prakash based on the statement of the woman. The Shoranur DySP is supervising the investigation.
Prakash operates a two-wheeler workshop at Cherpulassery town. The woman and her family had shifted to Mannur from Cherpulassery one-and-a-half months ago.
