Vadakara: As summer peaked several water bodies across Kerala ran dry, leading to immense hardship. A railway station too has been hit hard by water scarcity.

Acute shortage of potable water at Vadakara railway station in Kerala's Kozhikode district has taken a toll on the passengers and staff alike. With taps running dry for over two weeks passengers have started to vent their ire at the railway staff.

The washrooms and toilets at the station have already been closed down. The cleaning work at the station too has come to a grinding halt after the entire water supply system on the platforms stopped functioning.

The crisis started when the two wells from where water was being supplied to the station dried up. Of late, the authorities had spent a hefty sum to clear the slush inside the well but to no avail.

The passengers who alight the trains during brief halts to store drinking water are force to return empty-handed.

Though of substandard quality, permission has been given to pump water from the pond, nearby to allay the immediate water crisis in toilets at the station.
