Keralite wins Rs 7 crore at Dubai duty-free lottery

Dubai: A Keralite has won a whopping Rs 7 crore ($1 million) at the Dubai duty-free lottery.

The lady luck has smiled on P R Ratheesh of Kuravilangad in Kottayam. The son of Raveendran Nair-Ranthamma couple, Ratheesh has been working as an accountant at a private business firm in Dubai. He had been trying his luck alone at the Dubai duty-free for the past two years. He brought the prize-winning ticket on April 2.

Authorities rang him up with the good news around 11 am on Wednesday.

Ratheesh could not believe his luck initially and cross-checked the number on the coupon. His friend also checked the Facebook page of the Dubai duty-free, and confirmed the good news. "But it took more effort to convince my wife Ramya that I had actually won the prize," Ratheesh Kumar told Manorama Online.

Ratheesh, who has been in the UAE for the past years, is staying along with his family.

Though he has turned a crorepati overnight, Ratheesh does not plan to end his expatriate life soon.

"Let me come out of this shock first. Then I will decide on what to do with the crores of money," an elated Ratheesh Kumar said.
