Kottayam: More evidence incriminating the accused in the Kevin murder case were presented in court as the trial into the sensational case progressed.
The phones of the accused were within the mobile tower limits of Arpookara, Mannanam, Punalur and Kallar regions on the day of the crime, the Vodafone nodal officer, Shahin Thomas, said in court.
The phones of fourth accused Riyas and 10th accused Vishnu were detected at Arpookara mobile tower at 1am on May 27, 2018, the day Kevin was kidnapped. Around 2.24am, Riyas' phone was in the Mannanam area.
From 6.20am on May 27, phones of seven of the accused, including first accused Sanu Chacko, were in Punalur-Kallar mobile tower limits. However, the prosecution will have to decode the exact limits of the towers and submit a list, without which it cannot fully prove its arguments.
For that, a fresh request has to be given to the mobile service providers. The distance between the Chaliyekkara stream, where Kevin's body was found, to Kallar tower is just 1.85 km. While preparing the mahazar, Vallakode village officer Ratheesh had noted down this distance. He also said that the distance from the crime spot to Vallakode mobile tower was 2.65 km.
As many as 112 witnesses have deposed before the court in the Kevin case. Probe officer DySP Girish P Sarathy would depose before the court on June 14. This marks the end of the trial's first phase. In the upcoming days, the accused would be presented before the court.
Kevin was abducted from Mannanam in Kottayam by a gang allegedly on the instructions of his fiancée Neenu’s family. He was found dead in a river in Kollam the next day.
