Eramalloor: Body of 20-year-old Jisna Johnson, who jumped off Aroor bridge in an attempt to suicide, has been recovered from Kumbalam backwaters on Friday afternoon. Police and diving experts located Jisna's body stuck in Kumbalam area of Vembanad lake after a seven-hour search operation.
The body has been sent for inquest. Police is yet to register a case and start investigation in the mysterious suicide of Jisna Johnson, a third year civil draughtsman diploma student at Cochin Technical College, Panangad sub inspector said.
Jisna's college bag and identity card were recovered from the balustrade of the bridge. The Eramalloor girl was on her way to college when she jumped off Aroor bridge by 7:30 am on July 12 Friday.
The college authorities and the family of the 20-year-old, a native of Eramallur in Alappuzha district, are shaken by the tragic news as it was reported on Friday morning.
Talking to Onmanorama, Jisna's father Johnson had earlier revealed that they had discussed with Jisna, their plans to seek marriage alliances for her. “Jisna took it very lightly. She asked us to wait till her final board exams were over. We agreed right away,” he said.
Jisna was reportedly a lively girl both at home and college. Jiji, the vice principal of Cochin Technical College at Kaloor in Ernakulam, said she was an enthusiastic person. “She had a group of friends. She was very energetic in the class. She was friendly with both her classmates and the staff members,” he said.
Both the family and college authorities said that they are clueless about what could have prompted Jisna to think of suicide.
Johnson said he maintained a friendly atmosphere at home. “She could have shared all kinds of emotional stress she had with us. Her mother and I had even asked her whether she had a love affair. She said she didn't have any,” Johnson said.
Jisna had sought Rs 300 from Johnson to pay fee for college day celebrations on Wednesday. Johnson gave her Rs 50 extra to meet her personal expenses.
Johnson was informed about Jisna's suicide attempt by Panangad police, who reached the location following a phone call from an eyewitness. He immediately sent his son to the spot in his friend's car.
Jisna is the second child of Johnson, a carpenter, and Shiny. Their son works as a technician at a private aluminum fabrication workshop.
