Onam exams from Aug 26 to Sept 5

Thiruvananthapuram: The quarterly examinations ahead of the holidays for the Onam festival will be held simultaneously in the morning session from August 26 to September 5 for classes 9 to 12 in Kerala schools. This comes in the wake of a decision to conduct the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary examinations on same days in future.

Lower Primary (LP) school exams will be held from August 31 to September 5. Classes 1 to 4 will also have exams in the morning, while classes 5 to 8 will have them in the afternoon. Schools following the Islamic calendar too will hold exams from August 26 to 5.

The School Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) Monitoring Committee announced the decision on the schedule for the Onam examinations the other day.

Special programmes aimed at improving students' performance will be coordinated from this year onwards.

A special project will be introduced to support classes with less than 10 students. Pathanamthitta has the most number of such classes, even as there is a drop in the count statewide to 121 from last year's 167.

Last year the Onam exams could not be held on time due to floods. Many schools in the state had doubled up as relief camps.
