Kasaragod: Ending the suspense over the UDF candidate for Manjeswaram Assembly byelection, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) announced the name of M C Kamaruddin, the party’s Kasaragod district president on Wednesday.

“Kamaruddin’s victory in the bypoll is a foregone conclusion,” said IUML supremo Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal.

The decision to choose Kamaruddin was taken after discussions with leaders of IUML as well as other parties in Manjeswaram Assembly constituency and Kasaragod district, informed League leaders Hyderali Thangal and Sadiqali Thangal.

Senior party leader P K Kunhalikutty will be in charge of the campaign, which will start with a UDF convention at Manjeswaram on October 1.

Reacting to the development, Kamaruddin said: “Differences of opinion are natural in a political party. But with the announcement of my name, everything else is inconsequential.”

The ruling LDF has decided to field C H Kunhambu in Manjeswaram. However, the official announcement in this regard is yet to be made. Meanwhile, BJP is considering the names of K Surendran, party’s district president K Srikanth and Ravisha Thantri Kuntar.
