Actor among three killed in Muvattupuzha accident

Muvattupuzha: A young Malayalam actor, Basil George, was among the three killed in a car accident at Mekkadambu near Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district on Sunday night. Five people were also grievously injured in the accident as the car crashed into a building were migrant workers lived.

Basil George, 30, was the lead actor in the film ‘Poovalliyum Kunjadum’. He was the son of Mekkadambu native George and Siji. Bensil is his brother.

Nidhin, 35, and Ashwin Joy, 29, both from nearby Valakom, were also killed in the accident.

The injured were Latheesh, 30, of Valakom; Sagar, 19; migrant workers in the building - Ramon Sheikh, 37; Amar, and Jaydeep, 30. They have been admitted to the Kolenchery Medical College Hospital.

The accident happened around 9pm on Sunday. The car, with five people, was heading to Muvattupuzha from Kolenchery.

The driver lost control of the car, which first hit an electric post, and then crashed into a nearby shop and building. Local people and fire force personnel took the injured to the hospital.

Basil George, Nidhin and Ashwin died before they could be admitted to the hospital.

The accident was caused by speeding, as per the preliminary reports.
