Trawling ban in Kerala from June 9

Thiruvananthapuram: A 52-day trawling ban will come into effect in the state by June 9 midnight, Kerala Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma said.

The ban will continue till July 30.

The minister informed the government decision during a video-conferencing with the representatives of fisherfolk's associations and officials on Wednesday.

The 61-day trawling ban imposed by the central government in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) is from June 1 to July 31.

Fishing vessels from other states are also expected to leave Kerala's shores by Juy 9 midnight.

The trawling ban is imposed every year during the fish breeding season.
