Police arrest youth for abetting Kottiyam woman's suicide
Harris, Ramsi

Kottiyam: The Kottiyam police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the suicide of a young woman after he backed out of the marriage fixed with her.

Harris, a native of Pallimukku, has been arrested on the charge of abetting the suicide of Ramsi, 24, a native of Kottiyam. The police had summoned him for questioning on Sunday. His arrest was recorded subsequently.

Ramsi was found hanging inside her house on Thursday. She was engaged to be married to Harris. Ramsi’s parents had lodged a complaint with the Kottiyam police alleging that she committed suicide after he withdrew from the marriage.

The police started an investigation based on the complaint. They examined the phone call records of both Ramsi and Harris. They are also investigating the role of a serial actress in the death.

Ramsi's body was found hanging in a room around 3 pm last Thursday. The family said in their police complaint that her marriage to Harris had been fixed. But Harris backed out after the bangle ceremony and financial dealings had been done. This upset Ramsi, the family said.

Ramsi's family allege that he often took money from them. He must have taken about Rs 5 lakh, they said. The family also alleged that he was recently preparing for another marriage.

Harris is the brother-in-law of the popular serial actress. A telephonic conversation that Ramsi had had with Harris’ mother just hours before her death surfaced on social media. In the conversation, Ramsi said that she would kill herself if she could not live with Harris.
