MBBS student from Kannur found hanging in hostel

Alappuzha: A final-year MBBS student has been found hanging in the hostel room of the Government Medical College here.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Raj, 23, from Kannur, north Kerala.

The body was found by his batchmates on Wednesday noon.

A suicide note has been found from his diary, police said. Mental stress has been clearly cited as the factor that drove him to suicide, they added.

He was the son of Chandran of Purayil Vachali Niwas of Panoor East area.

Rahul had returned to the college from home on Saturday. As he didn't respond to phone calls from home, his classmates were contacted and the latter who went to pass on the information found him dead.

Apart from his father, Rahul is survived by his mother Sumathi and brother Rithul Raj.
