Mundakayam native gets 30 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping minor daughter for years

Kottayam: The Kottayam District Additional and Sessions Court-1 Judge G Gopakumar sentenced a man to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine for raping her minor daughter continuously for five years.

The punishment was given for 10 years each under three separate sections of the Indian Penal Code. The convicted person can undergo imprisonment concurrently for all the three charges. Public Prosecutor MN Pushkaran appeared for the prosecution.

The Mundakayam police had registered the case. The case was that the girl, who is now 20-year-old, was sexually exploited by her father during her school life from Class 3 to Class 8.

During the trial, the victim and her mother turned hostile. But when re-examined by the court, the victim said that she turned hostile on realising that her father had toiled a lot for giving good education to his brothers and her mother was a heart patient.

The incident of prolonged sexual abuse came to light when the girl told the matter to a woman in the neighbourhood. The woman, in turn, informed the CHILDLINE workers, who gave counselling and took her to the police for giving the complaint.
