It was late November that Anupama and Ajith had regained custody of their son, who had been illegally given up for adoption by the mother's family.

Anupama's parents, who are members of the ruling CPM, were unwilling to accept her relationship with Ajith, who was then legally wedded to another woman but living separately.

Her family had allegedly given her child for adoption days after it was born. After the Child Welfare Committee failed to grant her justice, Anupama and Ajith moved court.

After a year-long battle, a Family Court found irregularities in the adoption process and following DNA confirmation, the couple got its child back. The baby had been adopted by a couple in Andhra Pradesh.
