Political animosity behind Dheeraj's murder, states FIR

Thodupuzha: Political animosity led to the murder of Students' Federation of India activist Dheeraj Rajendran, 21, on Monday, states the First Information Report prepared after preliminary inquiry by the local police.

Dheeraj was stabbed to death outside the Government Engineering College, Idukki, while the students' union election was underway.

The police recorded the arrest of Youth Congress Vazhathoppu block president Nikhil Pyli and his accomplice Jerin Jojo in connection with the case.

Nikhil was charged with murder, while Jerin was slapped with offences such as attempt to muder and rioting.

The police are trying to find out whether more people were involved in the crime.

Two other students injured during the melee are undergoing treatment at the Idukki Medical College Hospital.

They are Abhijit T Sunil, 21, of Thrissur and AS Amal of Kollam, 23.

Dheeraj's body would be cremated on Tuesday evening. A memorial would be erected in his name at the land bought by the CPM near his house.
